Time for a ‘Big Girl’ Bed

So here we are nearly a month after my last post and things are starting to slow back down with the personal life but speed back up at the job. That is what happens when your job circles around a fiscal year. The funds for our department just came through and orders for replacement computers are coming in which means lots of work.

After Dawn moved out we thought that it would be a good idea to get Lexi into her own bed. We shopped around and finally found a nice on at Babies ‘R Us. It was just a simple bed that was wood grained and only required assembly and a crib mattress. Here is what we decided on:

After looking at the bed and the bedding we thought that it would be nice to try to surprise Lexi with her new ‘Big Girl’ bed. We timed it to where Lexi would stay at Grandma and Grandpa’s house for the week. While there we would get her bed setup and ready for when she came home. Also this allowed us to take apart and pack up the crib and take it down for storage.

While looking at the bed in the store my mind started racing with different ideas. I thought how cute it would be if we could get a bed that matched her dresser.

Her dresser you see is a piece that was given to us by a friend in Hobbs. When we first received the dresser it needed a little sprucing up. So Dawn and I went to Home Depot and purchased a couple quarts of paint, some new drawer rails and drawer pulls and went to town. We finished with a pretty nice piece.

Luckily for us we were smart enough to remember to keep swatches of the paints that we originally used to paint the dresser. A quick drive over to Home Depot and we were in business.

I took the time to work on the bed every night starting on Wednesday with primer and ending Saturday with clear coat. Here are the results:

It was a lot of hard work but I am very happy with the end product. As for Lexi she absolutely loves her new ‘Big Girl’ bed. Every night Dawn reads her a story before bed. Before she can go to sleep though she comes out and tells me, ‘Come tucka in me.’ It is absolutely adorable!!

Also before moving in her new bed Dawn took the time to hang up several of the pictures and other items we had in the house that needed to be hung. Several of these items are those types that would be found in Lexi’s bedroom if she had one. This way she at least has her own little corner of the bedroom for the time being. Here is another picture showing all the items that she hung on the wall.
