The Fourth of July was an excellent time for Lexi, Dawn and I to get together with Dawn’s family. Because of Dawn’s new job though, we were unable to enjoy all the time as one large family.
After work on the third I had to take Lexi to a doctor’s appointment to receive the last of her shots until she gets ready to start school. This was just a regularly scheduled wellness check-up and there wasn’t anything wrong so nothing to be worried about. Her measurements for this appointment were thirty-seven inches tall and thirty-five pounds. Her height was in the top seventieth percentile and her weight was in the top ninetieth percentile. So she is doing real well and growing just like a weed should.
We left that evening and headed for grandma and grandpa’s house. The plan was to stay until the eighth. We arrived late on Tuesday but the drive was really good all things considered. I was worried that several other people would decide to take the long weekend also and that would result in heavy traffic. I was pleasantly surprised to find that traffic was no worse then normal.
Initially we had plans to go down to the beach during the week however the weather had other plans. A heat wave struck right in the middle of the week. It pushed temperatures into the lower one hundreds at the grandparents house. This made any outdoor activity just a miserable experience. So we decided to stay indoors.
On the evening of the fourth instead of going to a fireworks show we went to a BBQ at Freida’s house. It was a great time regardless of the heat. While there Freida decided to get out an inflatable bouncing station that she had from her own great-grandkids. We aired it up and after some convincing got Lexi in and jumping around. She wasn’t really keen on the idea of being in it alone so Grandma and Grandpa to the rescue. The got in with her and she just went to town jumping up and down. She had a great time.
The following day we enjoyed some leftover cake from the night before. Lexi really liked it.
Dawn finally arrived on Friday night after having problems with traffic on the way down. Since Dawn just started her new job she doesn’t have the ability to take any time off until she completes her probation. This meant that she couldn’t take the Thursday and Friday off like I had so she drove down separately.
Saturday night we attended Dawn’s twenty year high school reunion. Dawn’s old high school friend Larue was nice enough to offer to drive us all. So in all it was Larue, her husband, Dawn, and I all going to this reunion together. We started the night with dinner at Benihana’s. It was the first time that I had ever been and it was great. I definitely want to go again if I should have the chance. When we were done with dinner we proceeded to the reunion. It was being hosted at the Angels stadium in one of the sports clubs that is onsite. We had a great time and I guess they already want to start to plan the next reunion.
Overall we had a great Fourth of July weekend. I hope everyone else had a good holiday as well.
