It is with great pleasure that I can say that the entire Rowe family is now home in Las Vegas. After living and working here in Las Vegas without my wife for a year and three months we are finally reunited. It has been a long strange trip but after all the headache and heartache I can truthfully say that it has all been worth it.
The last update that I provided about Dawn moving out was she was in the process of interviewing for several different positions throughout the valley. Later in the week during her interviews she received phone calls from other positions that she had applied for who wanted her to come in and interview since she was in town. By the time that she flew out she had interviewed with two private firms (including a callback interview), the State Attorney General’s office and Clark County. Additionally she had a separate ‘meet and greet’ with the Clark County District Attorney’s office. So in total I count five interviews in one week. Not bad considering that when she left Hobbs she had only arranged three. Thankfully she had received offers from the two private firms and accepted one and agreed to start work on June 4th.
Dawn had also received an offer from the County doing exactly what she was for the State of New Mexico. The down side to the offer was that it was low. The offer she was given was more then she was making in Hobbs however it was considered base pay for what her position would be. This didn’t make any sense to either of us as she had about a year and a half of experience doing exactly what they were asking her to do. This lead us to agree that it wasn’t fair to her to get paid the exact same amount as a recent UNLV graduate with no experience would receive.
Sadly the 13th came much too quickly and it was time for Dawn to head back to Hobbs. Funny thing is that her leaving this particular time was the hardest for me. I think it had a lot to do with Lexi being there. If memory serves, all the previous times that Dawn flew home Lexi was at school. This time she was leaving on a Sunday which meant that Lexi was with us. She was just so cute. Dawn and I said our goodbyes knowing full well that this would be the last time we had to endure this. Then as Dawn started to walk away little one chimes in, “See you in two weeks mommy!” Funny remembering it now brings tears back to my eyes. It was just too cute and too perfect a moment. When I think back on it I almost believe that she knew that things were going to change and mommy leaving this time was different then all the times in the past.
The next two weeks for me were hard. I wanted nothing more then to call Dawn up and tell her to drop everything and come out now. It was just such a relief to know that after more then a year alone that I would finally have my partner back in my life. To know that Lexi would have the opportunity to enjoy her mother the same way that she enjoys me. In the past I had always noted a difference in Lexi every time Dawn would come out, typically for the better. I was just so excited to see what changes would occur with Lexi with Dawn being her all the time.
On the evening of the 24th I drove to Grandma’s house to leave Lexi for the weekend while Dawn and I would move her things to Vegas. When leaving the next morning Lexi came outside and saw me off. Before I left I had told her, “You be a good girl for Grandma and Grandpa. Daddy has to go bye bye. I have to go get the momma!” She seemed so excited at the thought that I was going to get her mommy. As I backed out of the driveway she waved excitedly from Grandpa’s hip and said, “Bye Daddy!”
I headed back to Vegas. I had a plane to catch. Earlier I had booked a flight from Vegas to Midland. The plan was Dawn would get me at the airport and the next day we would take the truck and drive to Vegas. I am sure you are asking yourself, “Why not drive to California and then to Vegas?” The primary reason was gas. During the drive the best mileage I was able to get out of the truck was 16 MPG. Well from Hobbs to Vegas is only 890 miles. From Hobbs to California to Vegas is almost 1300 miles. Not only is it farther I already had concerns about the truck making it mechanically the distance. I must say that the truck did us good and we made it without any problems at all. The truck drove perfectly the entire way here.
That weekend we spent getting started on unpacking some of Dawn’s stuff. Also we took the car down to Grandma’s house and picked up Lexi for the next week. During the week Lexi was at school while Dawn tried to get all her things put together and the house cleaned up. Ya know I was a bachelor for a year and she needed to put a woman’s touch into the place.
Also during the week something interesting happened. Dawn received a call from the County with pretty much a new offer to come to work for them. The offer was less then the position she had tentatively accepted however you can’t beat government benefits with a stick. After much discussion we decided that it would be best if she took the County job. She called the County back and told them that she could start work on Monday, June 4th.
So that weekend Dawn, Lexi and I went to Grandma’s house again! This time Lexi was going to spend a week with Grandma. This worked really good for Dawn to have the ability to work her first week without having to worry about getting Lexi ready every morning. Also gave Dawn and I the much needed time together to be ‘married’ again.
Well that is the story so far from my last post. Dawn has been doing great at her new job. Her second day they already had her doing hearings. She was told that she is replacing the attorney who has the heaviest case load who will be leaving on or about June 15th. Dawn has been so excited about this new job and seems ready to rock and roll.
That concludes today’s novel. Thank you for taking the time to read through it all and I hope that you enjoyed it. Until next time love and miss you all!
