What Do Trains Say??

Chooo Chooo!!

Last weekend we traveled to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. One thing that made this trip especially nice was that it was a three day weekend for me. Since I work for the State of Nevada I was given ‘Nevada Day’ off. Nevada day is the last Friday in October. Due to this little fact I was able to leave for California on Thursday evening instead of my regular Friday evening departure.

This wasn’t all good however. As I traveled south on I-15 I encountered a really bad traffic backup starting what felt like a couple miles before the produce checkpoint North of Barstow. When I first started slowing down I figured they were simply checking vehicles this time at the checkpoint. However as I passed the checkpoint by I realized that I was severely mistaken. The stop and go traffic continued almost all the way to Barstow. All of this was caused by the fact that Caltrans had decided to close one of the two lanes. It just so happened that as I was passing through the construction zone workers were busy pulling up the cones that indicated that the lane was closed. Talk about bad timing on my part. I knew that I should have stopped and got something to eat before leaving Vegas.

I continued on my merry way towards Grandma’s house. Only again I hit more construction traffic. This time the traffic was towards the bottom of Cajon pass. Now I have known for a while that this construction was going on. Just this is the first time that I had traveled through the area and actually run into any type of problem. They had closed the freeway from 5 lanes all the way down to 2. Again stop and go traffic was the name of the game. It wasn’t so bad this time though, only stop and go for 2-3 miles. Cleared the construction and headed off for Grandma’s house which was only like 15 minutes away. Once we arrived I started eating the dinner I had picked up on the way to the house and Lexi started playing with Grandma. We did out typical hang out thing for a couple hours then headed off to bed.

The next day, Friday, we really didn’t do much. One nice thing was that Grandpa was home for the day and we just hung out. Guess you could say we were saving our energy for the next day’s activities.

On Saturday we all decided that we were going to go on an adventure. Several years ago we had gone to Griffith Park and stumbled across the Travel Town Museum. This little museum and park has a fairly decent display of steam locomotives. The only thing really wrong with them is in some spots they are a little worse for wear. This is where most of these pictures are from. She had such a blast!! She just loved all the trains. They had a little train that they were pulling around the outer perimeter of the park that we took her for a ride on and she just loved it.

After we had gone through all of Travel Town we decided we would take a trip over to the Merry-Go-Round they have at the park. On the way down the hill to the ride she seemed excited enough. However once she got on it was an entirely different story. She didn’t want to sit on a horse so Grandpa placed her in one of the carriages instead. Watching them go around was just priceless. Lexi was just clinging to Grandpa, eyes closed for dear life!!

When Grandpa and Lexi were done with their ride we decided it would be best to start heading home as it was getting late into the afternoon and Lexi still hadn’t had a nap. We piled into the car and we were off. It wasn’t maybe 20 minutes later and Lexi was passed out. Once we arrived back at the house I gently got her out of the car and placed her in bed to finish her nap. Overall the day was great and she had a really great time.
