Thanksgiving Vacation Round-Up

This year I again burned up some of my vacation time by going to my Grandparents house in Farmington. This trip to Farmington around Thanksgiving is starting to take the shape of an annual tradition. Trust me I don’t mind. Unfortunately, Dawn was unable to join us as she is still on probation at her job and is not allowed to take scheduled time off. This meant that it would be just Lexi and I this trip.

For the week or so that we were around we had a great time. Lexi really enjoyed spending time with Great-grandma and Granddad. It was really cute to watch her interact with the two of them. Also she could say Great-granddad but she like saying just Granddad better. Nearly all our time was spent at their house. Lexi enjoyed playing with Hapie’s blocks and the old toy garage that Grandma has had for years. It was strange to be lying on the floor with Lexi playing with the same toys I can remember playing with close to twenty years ago! Also Lexi and I would start to play the game of how high we could stack the blocks. Of course her favorite part was tipping them all over and watching them come crashing down.

One of the days that we were there we went out to my Aunt Paula’s house and spent the day. Lexi had a great time!! When we first got there Paula brought a very nice xylophone over to the kitchen table and let Lexi play it. It was funny watching how she would start to get excited and we would have to calm her down so she didn’t break something. Once we were tired with that we took Lexi for a short walk down the driveway and up and down the street a couple times. Paula allowed Lexi to be in charge of walking the dogs. I’m still not sure who exactly walked who that day. After our walk, Paula pulled out some of her precious stones for Lexi. Paula did a great job with her and had Lexi doing her best to count and name them before they were done.

I have to admit I am not a normal American man. I have no desire to sit back and watch football all afternoon while I drift in and out of consciousness after a nice turkey dinner. No I am a glutton for punishment!! After Thanksgiving was all done and over with I took Lexi over to the park. Besides how else was I going to get her to behave at the Thanksgiving table unless I bribed her with a trip to the park afterwards?? I got several pictures of her playing on all sorts of things like the slides and balance beams. Much of the equipment at the park is stuff that I can remember playing on when I was young. From that trip this is one of my favorite pictures. She was having such a fun time on that swing.

The morning after Thanksgiving we were greeted with a special treat. Rumors of snow were abounding for several days leading up to Thanksgiving, and I was really hoping that it would come. Lexi had never really played in snow before, at least not that she would really enjoy. We woke up early on Friday the 23rd and much to my delight there was a thin layer of snow on the ground. Lexi and I got up and dressed immediately. We went outside and after some coaxing she finally started to play with some of the snow. Here is a cute picture of her all bundled up playing outside with daddy.

Soon Saturday morning came, and it was time for use to hit the road. Another successful Thanksgiving vacation in the bag. When leaving I find myself asking the question, “Where did all the time go?” And sometimes I find myself yearning to move back to that little town and live out the rest of my days.
