Million Dollar Pumpkin

Even though this is technically Lexi’s fourth Halloween in a way it felt like her first. Let me explain. Lexi’s first Halloween she was only a couple weeks old, and we really couldn’t and didn’t dress her up. The next year we dressed her up as a Hershey Kiss. Sure it was cute and all for the adults, but she really didn’t understand what exactly was going on. Last year she was dressed up as a little witch. She did seem to grasp the concept a little more then the previous years, but there wasn’t any anticipation of upcoming events. This year however that all changed.

This year we had decided that Lexi was going to be a Plum Fairy. Dawn had done all the costume searching, and that is what we decided we would dress her up as. Dawn placed the order, and when the costume arrived we made a big deal of it to Lexi. As with most new things, Lexi hesitated at first when we tried it on her. Luckily when the time came for us to go trick or treat she was ready to go. We had worked really hard to get her used to the idea that we were going to put the dress on and go out and have a fun time.

Since Halloween was in the middle of the week we decided to go to Grandma’s house the weekend before so we could take her to a special Halloween fair and harvest the million dollar pumpkin. Earlier this spring Grandma embarked on a mission. The goal of this mission was to grow a pumpkin for Lexi. Along with several other vegetables Grandma planted exactly two pumpkin plants in hopes of having them develop a pumpkin. During the course of the year Grandma tended her garden and soon enough a pumpkin started to sprout up along one of the vines. About the same time some mildew and fungus started to sprout along the vine as well causing a trip to the plant doctors to get some medicine. So the joke is with the cost of the medicine, water, and time spent the pumpkin, when harvested, was worth a million dollars. I think that this picture shows that it was worth it.

This was taken right after we arrived for the weekend. Immediately after I finished unloading the car Grandma said, “Ok lets go pick the pumpkin,” and off we went.

The next day was the Halloween fair. We got up bright and early and got Lexi dressed up for a fun walk. After a short walk we came upon a group of people standing watching something. It wasn’t until we saw all the dressed up kids walking by that we realized we had found the parade of ghouls. We quickly grabbed Lexi’s hand and just jumped right in line with the rest of the kids. It wasn’t very long before Lexi was asking for me to carry her. We had a great time the little fair and maybe we can do it again next year.

Here is Lexi all dressed up and ready to go. We had just arrived and were about to take our walk to find the parade.

Lining the streets there were several booths that were handing out candy. We stopped to take a break from the walking and Lexi wanted a sucker. While she was enjoying it I took the liberty to take this quick snapshot.
