Post-Op Update

Well Lexi’s surgery on the 21st went off without a hitch. She did wonderful the doctor told us.

We arrived at the hospital early in the morning. Luckily for us we had already pre-registered earlier in the week so we didn’t have to fill out any paperwork. We signed in and waited. It seemed to take forever waiting to get called back. Looking back though it seems like it was maybe an hour and a half or so.

Once we were called back our entire clan headed back to get her ready to go. It was Dawn, Grandma, Grandpa and I waiting with her to get all prepped for surgery. An excellent nurse appeared and started to gather all the information on Lexi, like pulse, blood pressure, temperature and so on. She sat relatively still and allowed the nurse to really do whatever she wanted. Then they had the admissions bracelet that put around her ankle. She thought that was the neatest thing. Next they put an additional bracelet around the neck of her stuffed baby jaguar. I can’t express how good this nurse really did with her. I was really impressed.

Next with talked with the doctor and the anesthesiologist about the procedure and what was going to happen. To us everything was pretty much a rehash of the last surgery she had for her tear ducts. The time came for them to roll her away. We told her she was going for a ride with the nice nurse and to be good.

We all returned to the waiting area and then decided that we needed some breakfast. The information desk provided us with a beeper of sorts that allowed us to wonder around the hospital and they would notify us if we were needed. So we strolled over to the cafeteria and enjoyed a really impressive breakfast for being hospital cafeteria food.

After we were finished we returned to the waiting area. We waited for what seemed like forever and they finally called our name. I went ahead and let Dawn go back and hang out with Lexi as she was waking up. It took a couple hours but she eventually woke up enough that the doctor and anesthesiologist would let her go.

So we left and headed back to the house and hung out for the rest of the day. We really didn’t have any problems with her at all. We only had trouble after she woke up from a nap. She was complaining about her eyes hurting so we gave her some of her Tylenol 3 that the doctor had prescribed and placed some ice on her eyes to help the swelling go down. It seemed to help her out a ton.

Now here we are several weeks later and everything is great. Her eyes look a ton better and she none the worse for wear!!
